Former Constituency Chairman To Contest NPP Primaries

The former Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese (AAK) Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in the Central Region, has picked nomination forms to contest the upcoming parliamentary primaries of the party in the constituency.

Mr. Elvis Morris Donkoh, Manager of a Non-Governmental Organisation, resigned as a constituency chairman in March this year in accordance with regulations governing the primaries that required party executives who aspired to contest, to step down.

He will be contesting for the slot with Mr. Joseph Asiedu-Faakye, former constituency financial secretary who also resigned last month and Mr. Kobena Nyanteh, a businessman.

Mr. Asiedu-Faakye and Mr. Nyanteh, who have both expressed interest in the contest, are yet to pick their forms.

In a brief address after picking the forms, Mr. Donkoh expressed gratitude to members of the party for the confidence reposed in him, by voting him as chairman, through which he was able to spearhead a number of development projects.

He said such projects which included the renovation of the Abura Dunkwa Palace, the registration of about 3,000 people onto the National Health Insurance Scheme, donation of 400 bags of cement and street bulbs to communities in the districts, were an indication that he could do more if given the chance.

According to him, he has an agenda to develop the constituency and not his personal interest and promised a clean campaign, devoid of insults.

“I will ensure that NPP wins the seat…support me”, he stated, attracting applause and jubilation from the crowd of supporters who trooped to the party office to witness the event.

Mr. Albert Joojo Bondzie, constituency secretary who presented the forms to Mr. Donkoh, expressed worry that since 1992, the party has won the seat once during the 2004, elections.

He therefore urged constituency members to rally behind whoever emerged winner of the primaries, work hard in unity to achieve the ultimate goal of winning the seat.

Nominations will close on April 30, followed by vetting, while election will be held on June 13..
