(AUDIO) D H P Is My Work Experience - Deputy Minister-Designate

The Deputy Minister of Natural Resources-Designate, Kwabena Mintah-Akandoh caused quite a stir on Tuesday when he appeared before Parliament’s Appointment Committee to be vetted.

The Juabeso Member of Parliament (MP) was nominated to the ministry in a reshuffle by President John Dramani Mahama last month.

During his vetting, one of the issues which raised controversy was his work experience.

The nominee had indicated in his Curriculum Vitae (CV) that his work experience is serving as a dining hall prefect while at the senior secondary school.

Hon Akandoh also added under the work experience category that he also gained work experience as an executive of the schools’ Student Representative Council (SRC).

But the Appointments Committee, chaired by First Deputy Speaker, Ebo Barton-Odro pointed out that, those duties does not qualify as work experience as he was never remunerated for occupying those positions.

Minta-Akandoh subsequently promised the Committee that he would correct them on his CV, which also included he was a mathematics teacher.

This was his reply: “Thank you Mr Speaker, work experience not in the strict sense of being remunerated but whatever I have done before, that is why I included that one but if the committee thinks I must correct it, Mr chairman, I will humbly do so”.

The nominee also found it difficult to state the exact number of children he has fathered.
