Prez Mills: Pull Down The House

President John Evans Atta Mills has directed that all structures built on waterways should be demolished so as to minimize the devastating effect of floods. �Floods disasters are preventable but it is human activities that sometimes lead to loss of lives, property and displacement of people,� he stated. President Mills gave the directive yesterday when he toured areas devastated by floods in the Accra metropolis. He re-affirmed his support to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly�s bid to rid the metropolis of unauthorized structuring, especially those on waterways and stressed the need for all to cooperate with the AMA to ensure a smooth decongestion of the city. �It is through such exercises that the metropolis can be freed from floods whose devastating effects are unbearable�, he added. He expressed sympathy to relations and families who lost their lives and property as a result of the floods which occurred last month and pledged government�s commitment to addressing flood-related issues in the country with dispatch. Some residents of the flood-prone areas in the metropolis including Sakaman and the Kaneshie First Light area where the President visited, lauded President Mills for the initiative shown by visiting the areas to have first hand information about the flood situation. As the President�s motorcade passed by the affected areas, people trooped to the streets to cheer hm. President Mills was accompanied to his inspection tour by Kofi Portuphy, NADMO Co-coordinator, Alfred Vanderpuiye, AMA Chief Executive, Nii Armah Ashietey, Greater Accra Regional Minister, DCOP Rose Bio Atinga, Accra Regional Police Commander.
