Where Are Damoah Hunters?

Investigations conducted indicate that some eight Senior Military Officers who have been cited as plotting to eliminate Col. Kwadwo Damoah, former Director Personnel and Manpower of the Ghana Armed Forces, are still being covered, several weeks after the IGP had requested for them to appear for questioning. The paper is reliably informed that the former Acting Inspector-General of Police, Madam Elizabeth Robertson, on 11th March 2009, wrote to the Military Command, requesting for the suspects to assist in investigations. This was after Col. Damoah had made a report to the police about the threat on his life on 25 February, 2009. The paper further gathered that the acting IGP followed up with a reminder on her request but that was also treated with contempt. According to sources, the then Acting Chief of Defense Staff, Rear Admiral ARS Nuno, signed letters to the suspected officers, releasing them to face Police investigators; but this was halted following the change in the Defense Committee. With the Interior Minister scheduled to appear before Parliament, one hopes that the Military High Command would finally release the said officers. Yesterday, when this paper got in touch with Rear Admiral ARS Nuno to explain further this interesting development, he remained tight-lipped, saying, I cannot speak to the issue. Interestingly, officers at the Police CID, who were suspected of fanatically following the case, were transferred. At the same time, some of the indicted officers are being posted to more sensitive areas of the security setup. While one of them is now posted to the Kotoka International Airport, another one is often seen parading the Office of the Chief of Staff at the Osu Castle. The Deputy Director of the CID at that time, Mr. Ken Yeboah, who took a keen interest in the case, has been transferred to the Eastern Region, leaving the case hanging. Our checks at Burma Camp indicated that one of the indicted officers is now the Security Coordinator at Ghanas only international airport and hails from the same town as the current National Security Coordinator. It is being whispered that he is the brother of the National Security Coordinator and was the notorious soldier who asked former President Kufuor whether he was going to hand over power if his party lost the elections. Also, he is the one who leaked the report on the bogus Board of Inquiry (BOI) set up by Brig General R Winful, under the eyes of one pound who is now promoted to Air Vice Marshal, to a private newspaper in Accra for the mud-slugging to begin. Another, we were told, was the link man between then opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the soldiers, where a strong and massive propaganda was waged for the party. His boss, a known Church Elder, was a strong contender for the post of the CDS who has now been appointed an Ambassador. It would be recalled that few days after Colonel Kwadwo Damoah chastised former President JJ Rawlings for polarizing the military and challenged the authority of Brig General R Winful to set up a BOI, the residence of the former was attacked by a group of unidentified armed men. Col Damoahs wife and children had to pack out of their residence for security reasons. Col. Damoah, had earlier informed his wife that he had gotten hold of details of a meeting held by eight Military officers, which resolved that he should be eliminated.
