NHIA Has Failed To Clear Arrears Owed Providers - Pharmaceutical Society

The Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana says the National Health Insurance Authority has failed to honour its promise of clearing the more than four-hundred million cedis arrears it owes members of the society.

At a news conference in Accra, the society says though the Finance Minister announced the release of funds to clear the 2014 debt, the NHIA has still not paid the debt which has led to the withdrawal of services to insured clients.

President of the Association, James Ohemeng Kyei, said while it is not a bad idea for the NHIA to spend money in building projects, the society thinks priority should be given to the payments of services to health providers.

Mr Ohemeng Kyei added that government should seek a bail out to clear all outstanding arrears it owes providers as soon as possible.
