Erect A Monument In Honour of Theodosia Okoh - Allotey Jacobs Appeals To Gov't

Central Regional Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Allotey Jacobs has appealed to the Government of Ghana to erect a memorial statue to honour the memory of the late Theodosia Salomey Okoh.

Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", Allotey Jacobs described the late Theodosia Okoh as a "gift from God" to Ghanaians.

He recounted that "Madam Theodosia is a gift from God to Ghanaians because I always wondered the sort of wisdom that she had to design the Ghana Flag…When you look at West Africa, most of West African countries have their flags similar to Red, Gold, green. It shows you the drill that this old lady had that became emancipation for those of us in the sub-West African region. So, she’s an icon…”

Allotey Jacobs called on State authorities to raise a statue of her to set example for women in the country.

“Let’s honour our heroes and I think that she has proved her worth," he implored.

The statute, in his conviction will help keep memories of the late Theodosia Okoh, “so that she becomes a role model to our ladies growing up; those in gender advocacy that here is a woman whose dream when brought into reality, this is how it has brought an impact on the people of West Africa."
