Samsung has partnered UNESCO and the Government of Ghana to ensure accessibility of solar powered technologies to the people of Volo and neighbouring communities in the Volta Region.

The Digital Village which was launched on 24th April, 2015, will provide access to the world’s most advanced information and communication technologies, education and health services to the under-resourced areas.

The $860,000 facility would also bridge the digital divide and serve as a catalyst for local business development and government service delivery.

The components of the Samsung Digital Village in Ghana include: a Solar Powered Internet School, built to accommodate up to 24 learners; a Solar Powered Tele-Medical Centre, and a Solar Power Generator that powers up the Administration Centre which can be used as office space for local entrepreneurs and any other nearby school or community centre personnel with limited electricity supply.

The event was graced by Hyoung Keun Park, the Managing Director for Samsung Electronics West Africa, Mr Lyeo Woom-Ki, the Republic of Korean Ambassador and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwah, the deputy Minister of Education, .

Speaking to Peacefmonline.com after the launch, Mr. Okudzeto Ablakwah who is also the MP for North Tongu, thanked Samsung ad UNESCO for the Digital Village and remains resolute that the facility will improve the lives of people in the area.
