Great Olympics Grateful To Fans After Accra Derby

Great Olympics appreciated the support from locals during Sunday’s clash with city rivals Hearts of Oak which ended in a goalless draw.

Accra Great Olympics have expressed their gratitude to fans following a massive attendance at the Accra City Stadium during the derby with Accra Hearts of Oak on Sunday.

Turnout was around 15,000, which was highly satisfactory, according to organisers, given the challenges the local league is currently facing.

“I want to commend the fans for coming in their numbers to support the game. We really appreciate them for what they have done,” board member of Great Olympics Fred Pappoe told Goal.

“I think we hyped the game. Both Olympics and Hearts did well and I hope we can build on that in subsequent matches. We are thinking of hyping the return leg where Hearts will be the home team and I’m sure we will continue the hostilities. There might be a winner in that game.”

Pappoe urged the Ghana Football Association to support the clubs in promoting their matches in the league.

“The clubs should be committed, the Ghana Football Association should also support the clubs and the fans should think positively of our game.

“We saw the quality of the game. Nobody can say the quality was bad. No player on the pitch was bad, so I entreat the fans to appreciate our game and I believe going forward we could build on that and enjoy ourselves,” he said.

Hearts sit at 10th position on the league table while Olympics are on 14.
