There are strong indications that the New Patriotic Party(NPP) in the Tempane Constituency in the Garu-Tempane district will have only one aspirant going for the party’s primaries scheduled for May 2015.
Expectations were that the Constituency Chairman of the party, Paul Abugri would contest for the position of the parliamentary candidate of the NPP but rather, he had thrown his weight behind Joseph Dindiok Kpemka, a private legal practitioner.
At the time of filing this report, only Joseph Dindiok Kpemka had picked a nomination form which he had already submitted.
In 2012 there were calls for Lawyer Kpemka as he was popularly referred to, to represent the NPP. Unfortunately he lost the primaries to Joseph Akudibilla, who lost to the National Democratic Congress(NDC)’s David Adakudugu. So many meanings were read into Lawyer Kpemka’s lost to Joseph Akudibilla in the NPP primaries which led to some internal wranglings and divisions.
This time round, the constituency chairman, Paul Abugri is bent on maintaining a united front for the 2016 general elections and to see Lawyer Kpemka go to the primaries unopposed.
Joseph Dindiok Kpemka in an interview with DAILY GUIDE in Tempane said his chances of winning the Tempane parliamentary seat as well as claiming victory for Nana Akuffo Addo in the constituency were far brighter than they were in 2012.
According to him, the inability of President Mahama and his NDC government to fulfill the many unrealistic campaign promises had caused the electorates to lose trust in the NDC government and its Member of Parliament, David Adakudugu.
According to him, the NDC government since assuming power in 2009, had not been able to extend the services of Metro Mass buses to the area and the collapse of the School Feeding Programme and the ineffectiveness of the National Health Insurance Scheme(NHIS) in the area, had become a headache to the people of the area.
“At least if government had failed to fulfill its promises, the fertilizer subsidy should have been improved if not maintained at the level the NPP left it. We expected an improvement in the distribution of fertilizer, unfortunately we only saw a decline in its availability. I know my people will reject the NDC, David Adakudugu and President Mahama come 2016, I only pray for health and long life for everyone.”
Lawyer Kpemka was a former DCE for the Garu-Tempane district in the Upper East under the Kufuor regime.
