The women’s wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is targetting more than 900,000 votes from the Western Region in the 2016 general election.

The NDC women said the results of the 2012 elections, which saw the NDC accruing 582,193 votes in the region, representing about 54.42 per cent of the total votes cast there, must increase during the 2016 polls.

This forms part of the party’s comprehensive plan of action in the Western Region dubbed “Agenda 2016.”

Speaking to the Daily Graphic, the Regional Women’s Organiser, Ms Anita Annan, said “our resolution as the women’s wing of the party is to increase our votes to about 900,000.”

She said they were also going to highlight visible development projects, especially in the rural settlements to support their campaign to win the Western Region for the NDC.

Unity & improved data base
She also gave an assurance that the women’s wing would work to ensure that unity of purpose prevailed within the party. 

According to the regional woman organiser, their projection was not sheer talk, but had begun the process of updating their database to ensure that more women were added.

“We are not planning in a vacuum as we are poised to enhance the fortunes of the party with women playing a lead role”.

2012 Elections
According to Ms Annan, in the 2012 Elections, the NDC did well in all 26 constituencies,by bringing development to the constituencies.

“Even here in Sekondi/Takoradi, there has been tremendous increase in the number of development projects, especially the road-network, which would improve the lives of the people. The Takoradi Port expansion project, supply of hospital equipment to the only referral hospital in the region and other hospitals in the districts, and the district hospital for Sekondi, which is about to start,” she said.

Serviceable govt
She said governments were to serve the people, and  stressed that the focus of the NDC was to embark on development projects which would improve the lives of the people.” 

In the 2008/2012 election campaign, she said, the party promised and delivered to the people, and that “we are on the verge of completing the rest and we will.”

She said NDC had a lot of respect for its women, so as duchesses of the party, women’s organisers at the ward, district, constituency, regional and national levels would work for the interest of the party.

“I am glad to say that our women are very much aware of the task ahead. We are doing everything possible from the northern to the southern parts of the region to ensure we win the next election with ease,” she said.
