Former broadcaster, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has exclusively disclosed to Citi News why he chose to run on the ticket of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) as a Parliamentary candidate ahead of the 2016 elections.
Mr. Oppong Nkrumah who is running for the Ofoase Ayirebi seat said his belief in the NPP liberal democratic ideology pushed him to the party.
He said the current situation demands a party with forward-looking ideals and principles to take Ghana out of its challenges.
His reasons
Oppong Nkrumah stated that at heart, he shares the party’s philosophy for solving problems.
He said he totally disagrees with persons who argue that philosophy does not matter but just pragmatism.
“The philosophy informs the approach and so if I look across the political options, the NPP’s philosophy and its approach to solving problems that bedevil us is one that appeals to me and so at heart, I agree with that.”
His second reason was that taking a critical look at the track record of parties in government and in opposition, “I think I’m more comfortable with the NPP’s disposition towards politics.”
He remarked that the “NPP does its politics in particular way, deals with the substance of issues, deals with working to improve the quality of lives of the people and I am very comfortable in this place.”
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah added that he has resolved the impasse that ensued between him and Ofoase Ayirebi Constituency Chairman.
He admitted that he was not “too excited at the time but I took it in my strides.”
“In politics, you expect to be jabbed here and there. When people are not exactly with you, sometimes they say things that are not complimentary but I chose not to engage my chairman in any public spectacle,” he said.
He disclosed that their differences were resolved internally and they are now working together to build a party for victory in 2016.
“Just this Sunday, I drove him in my car as we went to the Chief’s palace at Ofoase to go do something there so we are working together to build a constituency and to build the party,” he said.
