Dumsor Chronicles: Celebrities Have Every Right To Voice Out Their Frustration - Kuntu Blankson

Former NDC Member of Parliament for Ekumfi, George Kuntu Blankson has scolded some NDC communicators who in recent times have affronted Ghanaian celebrities for voicing out their frustrations in the unending Ghana’s power crisis.

Kuntu, described those NDC members as “sycophants” within the ruling National Democratic Congress with “little brains”.

He finds it outrageous and questioned why Ghanaian celebrities cannot add their voice to the ongoing demand by citizenry for solutions to ‘Dumsor’ [erratic power supply].

“Are they [celebrities] not Ghanaians? It’s a big shame to those so called NDC members who insult those celebrities as prostitutes,” he said.

According to him, celebrities voicing out their pent-up feelings on the power crisis in the country is laudable since the President, John Dramani Mahama himself has expressed worry about the situation whiles finding solution to it.

“The situation [Dumsor] is a societal issue and it affects our daily bread so it’s a matter of concern, so if a citizen express his frustration in that direction, nobody has the right to condemn that person,” he said.

For the past few days, several celebrities, including Yvonne Nelson, Sarkodie, Lydia Forson, Wanlov the Kubolor and Chris Attoh, have called on Government to find an urgent solution to the frustrating power crisis.

But a former aide to the Chief of Staff, Alhaji Halidu Haruna, did not find that very pleasing especially Lydia Forson’s comments to the president.

Prior to that, he described female celebrities above thirty years and unmarried as ‘irresponsible and prostitutes’ but has since, apologized.

Again, NDC’s Dela Coffie has also responded to the letter written by actress, Lydia Forson to President Mahama indicating that the President is not ready to take advice from a brothel.

But speaking in an interview with Peacefmonline.com, the former NDC MP opined that, “Even the president himself has condemned the issue [dumsor]. So why should a person who calls himself Alhaji call someone a prostitute…in Islam, there is much respect for women”.

“We are in the society of political identity…everyone can decide which party to support. Even NDC members are complaining of the Dumsor, so why not the celebrities?” he queried.
