Dome Pillar 2 Installs New Zongo Chief

After several years of being without a Zongo chief, opinion leaders in the Muslim community at Dome Pillar 2 are gearing up for a colorful event on Saturday, May 9, 2015 to install an elder of the area, Alhaji Mohammadu Bin Abdallah, as Sarichin (chief) Zongo.

The installation ceremony, which will take place at the Atomic police station park, is expected to be graced by the National Chief Imam, Sheikh (Dr) Usman Nuhu Sharubutu, the council of Muslim and Zongo chiefs and representatives of political parties among others.

In an interview with The aL-hAJJ, Secretary to the yet-to-be installed chief, Osman Akulbila, explained that, although there are a lot of Muslims living in Dome Pillar 2, they have been without an official zongo chief.

“No community will thrive in peace and develop without having a chief, as a result, opinion leaders in the area came together and decided that the time has come for us to have someone as our chief,” he stated.

He added that after several months of searching and consultations, the Muslim opinion leaders in the area landed on Alhaji Mohammadu Bin Abdallah as the ideal person to be installed chief.
“A lot of thinking, soul searching and consultations went into the selection of Alhaji Mohammadu Bin Abdallah. We had a lot of discussions and we finally agreed on Alhaji Mohammadu Bin Abdallah…so we approached and discussed it with him to be our chief and he accepted it. He is one of the respected Muslim elders in the area,” Osman Akulbila stated.

According to him preparations for the installation ceremony are in advance stage, “all is set for the installation ceremony. We have invited all those who matters and we are also using this medium to invite all Muslims and Ghanaians alike to the Atomic Police Station Park at 10 am on Saturday to witness this all important ceremony.

Osman Akulbila noted that Muslims in Dome Pillar 2 were ecstatic when news broke that they will for the first time get a chief.
“The people were happy when they heard that the community will for the first time get a chief. This is a novelty in the history of Muslim community at Dome Pillar 2. On Saturday, we will also have our own Chief,” he added.
