Eugene Boakye Antwi, an aspiring New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary aspirant for Subin in the Kumasi Metropolis, who reportedly made uncomplimentary remarks about Fantes, has apologised.
He offered the unqualified apology through a news release he signed from Kumasi.
“I write to render an unqualified apology for any hurt or offence I may have caused as a result of uncomplimentary remarks made by me against one of my competitors in the NPP Subin parliamentary primary, the MP, Mr Isaac Osei,” he said.
“I accept that it was improper for me to make a comment with any reference whatsoever to traditional stereotypes in Ghana. I am not a tribalist and have always lived in peace, respect and brotherliness with persons of all ethnic backgrounds.
“It was unfortunate that a private conversation six months ago between Mr. Illiasu Iddrisu and myself, where I was complaining about the relentless abuse that I have been receiving from the MP’s people, has been cut and joined selectively to cause disaffection for me.”
He said the mother of his three daughters is a “100% Fante” hailing from Anomabu and Gomoa Dawurampong, all in the Central Region, adding, “I would not deliberately do anything to cast aspersions on her good self and others from where she hails.”
