50 Students Arrested In Connection With Death Of Colleague

The police Wednesday arrested 50 mates of the late Ebenezer Kusi, who died from matchete wounds he allegedly inflicted on himself during a squirrel chase at the Effiduase Senior High School last Monday.

According to the Effiduase District Police Crime Officer, ASP Opoku Yamoah, the arrest followed complaints by family members of the 18-year-old deceased who said they suspected foul play.

At the time of filing this report, all the 50 suspects had been granted bail by the police. The school stood surety for them.

Background

Kusi died at the Effiduase Government Hospital from a matchete wound he was alleged to have inflicted on himself. He was said to have cut his right thigh with the matchete when he and his mates were chasing a squirrel.

Reports indicated that the squirrel emerged from the bush where Kusi and his mates were weeding as a form of punishment for infringing school rules and regulations. Kusi, who was said to be leading the chase, fell when he lifted his sharp matchete to kill the animal. He was said to have missed his target and rather inflicted a deep cut on his right thigh.

Kusi was subsequently rushed to the Effiduase hospital where he was pronounced dead. His body is currently at the mortuary of the hospital awaiting autopsy.

The incident was later reported to the police by the Headmaster of the school, Mr A. A. Amoah Antwi.
