Joshua Clottey In US To Prepare For 43rd Fight

Joshua Clottey’s quest to earn another shot at the world title continues when he steps into the ring again on May 9 for a Super Welterweight clash in the United States.

Clottey left Ghana on April 26 with his trainer, Godwin Kotey Dzanie to finalise preparations for his 43rd fight.

Clottey faces the challenge of 23 year old Mexican, Jorge Silva at the Minute Maid Park, Houston, Texas on the undercard of Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez versus James Kirkland bout.

Canelo had been billed to fight Clottey in December last year but the Mexican pulled out citing an injury and his camp did not even set a new date against the hard-hitting Ghanaian.

Once the fights are over on Saturday, there could be no escape route for Canelo since Clottey is currently rated number 3, just behind Canelo in the WBA Junior Middleweight ratings of the title held by Floyd Mayweather.

Clottey is also rated no.8 by the WBC who rank Canelo as number one contender.

Victory for both Clottey and Canelo will likely set the stage for a mega eliminator between the two for the WBA title in September.
