Tuobodom Chieftaincy Clash Re-Surfaces

A protracted chieftaincy dispute at Tuobodom in the Brong-Ahafo Region, nearly turned bloody on Monday when supporters of one of the paramount chiefs in the town fired gunshots indiscriminately to scare those of the rival.

Nana Obeng Barimah, Omanhene of Tuobodom was riding in a palanquin back to his official residence after he chaired the inauguration of a library project in the town, when supporters of Nana Baffour Asare,  allegedly fired several gunshots to disperse the crowd which accompanied him.

But the timely intervention of some police and military personnel saved the situation without any casualty.

As the residents rushed indoors, the security officers had to control the vehicular traffic, to escort Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, who was the guest speaker to the function.

The Ghana News Agency learnt that the action of the feuding faction of the dispute was to register their protest against the District Assembly for failing to invite the other paramount chief to attend the function.

Some of the residents told the GNA that security in the tomato-growing area was very poor because of the chieftaincy dispute.

The residents who said they feared reprisal from the other faction, appealed to the police to beef up security in the town.
