Fire Guts Sunyani Timber Market

A fire outbreak on Tuesday razed down a number of carpentry shops at a timber market at area two, a suburb of Sunyani, causing extensive damage to properties worth millions of Ghana Cedis.

No casualty was recorded in the inferno, which also rendered a number of slum dwellers homeless.

It took personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) about three hours to bring the fire under control.

When the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited the market, about 10 carpentry shops were burnt beyond recognition.

Though the cause of the fire, which started around 1530 hours, is yet to be established, onlookers told the GNA that a storm which blew in the afternoon,  might have lighted a smoke that emitted from a sawn dust deposited at one of the carpentry shops.
