Man Jailed For Fraud

Rashid Ewutomah has been sentenced to twenty four months in prison by a District Court in Temale for defrauding unsuspecting persons with the promise of getting them recruited into the Ghana Armed Forces.

He pleaded guilty to 5-counts of defrauding by false pretences.

A statement signed by Mr Andy La-Anyane, Lieutenant Commander, Armed Forces, and copied to GNA noted that, the man in question issued various fake recruitment letters and military ID cards to unsuspecting people in Damongo and collected huge sums of money.

It stated that the fake letters asked the potential recruits to report to a training centre in Sunyani for commencement of military training.

A military team dispatched to conduct investigations arrested the suspect at Damongo and retrieved items including a laptop computer, which had copies of the various letters he designed and issued to the people.

“Fake military ID cards and medical forms were also retrieved from his room during a search” it added.

The statement said the suspect was transferred to the Tamale Regional Police Command where he was charged with the offence.

“When Rashid Ewutomah appeared before the District Court in Tamale, he pleaded guilty to the 5-counts and was convicted on his own plea” it said.

The Ghana Armed Forces said no new recruitment exercise is being undertaken, noting that, all enlistment and recruitment exercises are published in the National dailies to educate the general public on the processes involved.

They advised the public to report anybody who carries himself as an agent for recruitment into the police or army.
