Man Defiles Girl, 3, At Church Urinal

An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced a 21-year-old man who defiled a three-year-old girl at a church urinal to 18 years’ imprisonment with hard labour.

Lawrence Yerba, pleaded guilty to the charge of defiling a female child under 16 years and was convicted on his own plea by the court, presided over by Mrs Rita Agyeman Budu.

Yeboah was said to have lured his victim into a urinal and sexually abused her.

The prosecutor, Police Inspector, J.B. Asante, said the complainant was a police investigator and the father of the victim.

Mr Asante said on March 15, 2015, at about 11am, the victim and the complainant attended the Tesano Baptist Church in Accra.

After the church service, he said the complainant left the victim with his housekeeper in order to attend a church meeting.

He said the housekeeper also left the victim alone and went into a urinal; it was at that period that the convict approached the victim under the pretext of buying her biscuit.

Mr Asante said the convict lured the victim into the children’s urinal of the church and defiled her.

After the act, Yerba led the victim out and bolted.

The inspector said the housekeeper, who was then looking for the victim, spotted her running out of the urinal.

He said the housekeeper met the victim and she revealed her ordeal to her.

The Prosecutor said the complainant lodged a complaint.

When the convict was arrested, he admitted the offence in his statement.
