Police Grab 2 Armed Robbers

Two suspected armed robbers have been arrested by the Accra Regional Police Command, following a series of attacks they launched on residents of Teshie and its surrounding areas in Accra.

The suspects are Michael Kwabena Rockson, 29, a taxi driver, and Eric Boateng, alias Kwabla Kwashie, 22, a mobile phone seller.

Two other accomplices whose names were given only as Alhassan and Yaw Isaac are at large.

For the past three months, residents of Teshie East, Teshie Tebibiano,  Agbleza, Okpoi Gonno, Greda Estates, Fertiliser, Adzorma and its environs have been attacked by gun-wielding robbers.

Media briefing

Briefing the media yesterday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno said the suspects were arrested after they had attacked a victim at the Greda Estates on April 30, 2015.

Weapons such as a pump action gun, a cutter and an iron bar which were suspected to have been used in the robbery operations were retrieved by the police.

According to Mr Yohuno, investigations showed that the two suspects and their accomplices met at a location on the Spintex Road where they conspired to embark upon a robbery expedition.

Attack on victim

Armed with a pump action gun, a cutter and an iron bar, Mr Yohuno said the suspects attacked a resident of a house at the Greda Estates at about 11:30 p.m. and robbed him of his wallet containing an unspecified amount of money.

They also robbed him of his flat screen television set, wrist watches, three mobile phones, two laptops, ipads and other valuables.

DCOP Yohuno said the victim  reported the incident to the Teshie Police who eventually arreseted Boateng while on board a Daewoo taxi.

After he was taken to the police station, Rockson came to the station and gave a false report that his taxi had been snatched by armed robbers.

However, the police personnel at the charge office who were highly suspicious of Rockson interrogated him “and he confessed to the crime and mentioned the names of three of his accomplices”.
