Akufo-Addo Greets David Cameron

The 2016 New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has congratulated UK Prime Minister David Cameron on securing a “stronger” mandate to govern in the general elections held last week.

“This is to congratulate warmly British Prime Minister, David Cameron, and the Conservative Party for their victory in Thursday’s general elections, which saw David Cameron re-elected with a stronger mandate as Prime Minister, with the Conservative Party securing an overall majority with 331 out of the 650 seats in the House of Commons.

“The outcome of the elections is a clear vote of confidence in the sterling leadership provided by David Cameron and the Conservative Party, who, over the last five years, have offered decisive leadership to put Britain back on the right track,” Nana Addo pointed out.

The NPP standard bearer said that by this historic victory, he Mr Cameron defied those who said that there would be a ‘hung’ parliament, and that the difficult but necessary choices made by him (Cameron) and his government did not resonate with the concerns and aspirations of the British masses.

Upon assuming office in 2010, David Cameron met an economy caught in the global financial crisis, a growing public debt, and rising unemployment. He came in with a plan, set the right priorities, stayed focused and has delivered on where it matters most – the economy.

Nana observed that he results in Thursday’s polls showed that the British people believe that their government, under Cameron’s leadership, had restored confidence and is delivering on the economy, on jobs, and on improved living standards which are providing families with a growing sense of security.

“For us in the New Patriotic Party, we are excited by the victory of the Conservative Party because the values we both share – beliefs in individual liberty, freedom and responsibility, respect for human rights and the rule of law, the principles of democratic accountability, the efficacy of the market economy and social justice – have proven again to be the surest way towards steering any nation back onto the path of strong economic growth and prosperity.

“Warm congratulations once again to David Cameron, and best wishes for his continued success, especially, his pledge to lead a government for ‘one nation’ and make Great Britain greater,” he said.
