Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur on Saturday afternoon made a stopover at the Atta Mills Farm in Shama in the Komenda Eguafo District in the Central Region.

Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur made the stopover was on his way to Accra, after he had participated in the two day forum of the 2nd forum on the implementation of the Single Spine Pay Policy (SSPP) that was held in Takoradi ,in the Western.

The two-day forum was organized by the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations in conjunction with the Ministry of Finance and its Social Partners.

He said the stop over visit was to see how work on the farm which he knew about was going on and also to motivate the workers as part of government's efforts to motivate local industries to explore avenues and opportunities to expand their production.

The Vice President commended the workers for the good job that they are doing in the area especially keeping the vision of late President Mills.

The Atta Mills farm owned by the late President Mills and his family which was established in some years ago, but the land was given to them by their late father, currently the farm has an animal husbandry made up of Sheep’s ,Goats , a Piggery and cattle’s, they also have a fish farm which they produce on commercial quantity ,a poultry farm , rearing of ducks and also a coconut and mango plantation.

Speaking to the press Dr Cadman Mills a brother of late President Mills who runs the farm stated that the farm is breaking even and is on the verge of expanding it, so that they can continue to employ people in the area.

Dr Cadman Mills said the major challenge’s that they face currently is encroachment on the land and it is making it very difficult for them to expand ,all attempt to stop them have proved futile ,so are currently using the court process to see how best they can solve the problem once and for all.

Currently the farm also engages more of the rural folks with a guaranteed income with the aim to help provide jobs for the youth and cut down on the country’s importation of goods that could be produced locally.
