Iranian Cultural Consulate Rejects Petition

A Moslem group which calls itself The Concerned Moslem Forum today failed to present a petition to the Iranian Embassy through the Cultural Consulate of Iran in Accra on the Human Rights situation in Iran. Officials at the Iranian Cultural Consulate refused to receive the petition on behalf of the Embassy and rather directed the group to send the petition directly to the embassy. Members of the Concerned Moslem group marched peacefully this morning to the Cultural Consulate amid police escort and carried placards with various inscriptions. Some of the inscriptions read, Free The Journalists, Because They Are The Mouth of the Weak and the Vulnerable and Respect The Will of The People Because It Is the Will of Allah. The Concerned Moslem Forum in its petition expressed concern about the violence and abuse of the rights of innocent citizens by the Iranian authorities after the countrys recent election. It cited the detention of some journalists, politicians, academics, students and human rights activists who disagree to policies of the Iranian government to buttress their point. Rashid Amuda is the PRO of the concerned Moslem forum.
