NPP MP Lauds President Mahama For Appointing Two New Members To Supreme Court

Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central constituency, Hon. Patrick Yaw Boamah has praised President Mahama following his appointments of two new members to the Supreme Court.

Justice Yaw Appau, the Sole Commissioner of the judgement Debt Commission and Gabriel Pwanamg, were the two promoted by the president. In a letter from the Flagstaff House, the President quoted Article one, four, four clause two of the Constitution.

The article empowers the President to appoint Supreme Court Judges in consultation with the Judicial Council and the Council of State and upon approval of Parliament.

Speaking on PeaceFM’s Evening News, Hon. Boamah, stated that Justice Yaw Appau has risen from the ranks and deserves the promotion.

“He has come from the High Court to the Court of Appeal and finally to the Supreme Court. He is a hard worker and a firm judge. I wish him the best of luck and expect him to continue serving in the interest of Ghana”, he said.

He described Gagriel Pwanamg a person who would always use his experience to help the bench.

He however tasked President Mahama to also consider academia and people with diverse skills when looking for people to appoint.

“He must look out for lawyers into Research and Finance when doing his appointment. This is because the our laws keep developing and it would enable Justices at the Supreme Court to deal with novel cases and not necessarily going out to lookout for consultants when dealing with those cases”.
