NDC Are Like Addicted Gamblers With No Money- Kofi Capito

Consumer Rights advocate, Kofi Capito, has admonished the Minister for Power to study his responsibilities well and know it is never his duty to inform Ghanaians about adjustments of tariffs.

It doesn’t surprise me he is acting this way. Even before he became a minister, he was the one saying that tariffs should be increased to make way for ‘dumsor’ to be resolved”, Mr. Capito said.

The Consumer Rights advocate wondered why the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) under the guidance of the National Democratic Congress, has failed to honour its continuous promises of solving the power crisis despite taking huge moneys from the taxpayer. “How many times have they not told us ‘dumsor’ can be fixed if only they increase tariffs?” he rhetorically asked.

He compared the leaders of the NDC to addicted “gamblers with no money”. “They step into the game with no money and ask the opponent they face to lend them money...they can’t fool us for the second time”, he warned.

The Minister of Power, Dr. Kwabena Donkor has said that electricity tariff will soon be adjusted, despite the erratic power supply that is crippling many businesses in the country.

But Mr. Kofi Capito in an interview on PeaceFM’s midday news noted that it remains the duty of the PURC to announce anything new about tariffs to the public. Mr. Kwabena Donkor's duty is to "ensure the energy policy in Ghana works well. He has no right to tell us to pay 'realistic' bills", he said.
