Former Black Stars player Rev. Osei Kofi has urged the government to hand former Ghana Coach Jones Attuquayefio a state burial.
 
Attuquayefio, arguably Ghana’s most celebrated football coach died on Tuesday at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

The 70-year-old had successful coaching stints with Accra Hearts of Oak, Great Olympics and the Benin National team.

His unfortunate death however left the football fraternity in Ghana in a gloomy mood and has since mourned the deceased for the past two days.

Osei Kofi has therefore advised the government to stage a befitting burial for the former National Hero.

“Attuquayefio is a name every football person in Ghana will remember,” Osei Kofi spoke to newly-established Kasapa Fm.

“He should be given a befitting burial by the state for his huge contribution to football in the country.”

“He shouldn’t be given an ordinary burial but rather an honourary burial. That is what I will advise the government to do.”

“He coached almost all our national teams being it the Black Stars, Meteors, Satellites and Starlets. Therefore I will urge the government to give him a state burial.”

Attuquayefio won bronze with the Ghana U17 team at the 1999 FIFA U17 World Cup in New Zealand.
