Rawlings Invited For Appiahs Testimonial

Former captain of the Black Stars Stephen Appiah has paid a courtesy call on former president Jerry John Rawlings at his residence.

The visit was to officially invite him to a testimonial match and dinner in honour of the former Stars skipper, after retiring from active football.

According to Appiah, the visit was also to afford him the opportunity to brief the former president on preparations ahead of the dinner on June 26 at the Banquet Hall and testimonial match on June 27 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Appiah said he would look forward to see the former president on both occasions as he finally brings the curtain down on his career.

Former President Rawlings said he was honoured to receive the former skipper in his home, adding that, “Appiah is a symbol of humility in Ghana football and must be celebrated”.

He said, the exemplary leadership displayed by Appiah was a clear demonstration of his commitment and dedication to the cause of the nation.

“He said sportsmen and women are very true to their words. When we are true to our words and ourselves we perform better”, he stated.

The event is expected to attract top players from Europe and other parts of Africa.
