U/E Chairman Was Aware Of Our Meeting Afoko

National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Afoko, has insisted that the Chairman of the party in the Upper East Region was informed of a recent meeting held in the area.

Paul Afoko and the party’s General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong, were recently chased out by some members of the party during a meeting with some of the party’s executives in the region.

The Upper East Regional Chairman, Mahama Adam, has denied knowledge of the said meeting and said he could not take responsibility for the troubles that ensued.

The national chairman explained that Kwabena Agyepong did call to inform Mr. Mahama Adam of the planned meeting but Mr. Adam wanted a call from Mr. Afoko instead.

“So when Mr. Adam heard some constituency executives had come for the meeting and that the regional organizer Mr. Jerry Asamani was the one organizing the meeting for Mr. Afoko and Agyepong, he came here to disperse the crowd and even sent text messages to those who had not come for the meeting to stay home.”

He stated that “later some macho men besieged Azomsulum guest house where the meeting was scheduled to take place and beat up the regional organizer Mr. Jerry Asamani and Metro TV reporter.”

He said “even though Mr. Ajene who is the owner of the guest house attempted to stop them from causing harm to anyone present that was unsuccessful.”

Mr. Afoko who was briefed on the happenings called the Police who rescued Mr. Asamani and sent him to the hospital for treatment.

Mr. Afoko and Mr. Agyepong came to the Police Station to help calm down members but the angry party members threatened to beat him.

The Police had to fire tear gas to disperse the crowd but even with that they still chased the two national executives wanting to beat them.

The Police had to escort Mr. Afoko to his hotel but he realized he wasn’t safe there so he left for Navrongo to pass the night there while Mr. Kwabena Agyepong was escorted to Tamale where he also spent the night.

The planned meeting has been suspended indefinitely and the elders and regional executives will convene a crunch meeting next week to discuss the matter.

Meanwhile the Regional Organizer Jerry Asamani is responding to treatment.
