Afari Gyan & His Entire Commission Lack IdeasThey Must Leave NAPO

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia South in Kumasi, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh has called on President Mahama to with immediate effect appoint a new Electoral Commissioner [EC] boss to replace incumbent Dr. Afari Gyan.

He explained that, the long serving EC boss and his entire working team now lack ideas to manage affairs.

The NPP MP was commenting on the EC’s limited registration exercise which began last week at its district offices across the country.

It is time President Mahama and the Counsel of State replace my uncle [Dr. Afari Gyan]. His time is up. The president must appoint a new leader who will involve political parties and stakeholders. This current commission lack ideas. It’s very sad,” he said.

The exercise has been criticized by both leadership of the ruling NDC and opposition NPP party.

Dr. Mathew Opoku, in an interview on OKAY FM’s morning show, "Ade Akye Abia", expressed shock and claimed the EC has by its actions broken several electoral laws in section 2 of the CI 72, which guides its activities.
