NDC Conniving With EC To Register Foreigners -Alleges Kennedy Agyapong

The outspoken New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has alleged clandestine moves by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), in connivance with the Electoral Commission (EC), to register foreign nationals to take part in next year’s general elections.

Though he declined to give details about the said moves by the ruling party, the controversial MP, who is popularly known for his political espionage, particularly within the current administration, says he has tape and video recordings of the said plans, which he hopes to make public in due course.

He is responsible for the leakages of documents involving payment of dubious judgment debts to NDC cronies, including the infamous Woyome scandal, which has, over the past four years, dominated political discussions in the country. His latest exposé, however, appears to lend credence to calls by the leadership of his party for a thorough review of the voters’ register, ahead of the 2016 elections.

Speaking on a local radio station, Hello FM, in Kumasi recently, the Assin Central MP stated emphatically that the ruling NDC was doing everything possible to manipulate the results of next year’s elections, including registering non-Ghanaians with the assistance of the Electoral Commission.

“While we NPP are busily fighting amongst ourselves and sabotaging each other, NDC is out there registering foreign people to come and vote next year,” Agyapong emphatically stated. Touching on the internal wrangling within the NPP, Kennedy Agyapong downplayed the magnitude of the situation, attributing it, however, to suspicion and mistrust amongst the leadership of the party.

According to him, the situation was not something the party cannot handle, emphasising that the intervention of even three respected elders of the party should be able to settle matters and help the party move forward. “This is not something we cannot address; we just need three respected elders of the party to sit the various factions down and address all misunderstandings and suspicions amongst ourselves,” he noted.

The Assin Central MP, however, spared some advice for the General Secretary of the party, Mr. Kwabena Agyapong, urging him to purge himself of all suspicions about his loyalty to the party’s victory, in order to gain the trust of the entire supporters of the party.

He noted: “As it stands now, it is clear that Kwabena Agyapong is not of himself, but if he can genuinely put aside all interests, I think he would be a very good General Secretary, otherwise, people still have suspicions about him.”

The vociferous NPP legislator, therefore, warned that the NPP General Secretary risks damaging his political career if he continues on the current path he has chosen, since it will not serve his interest and that of the party.

“Let me reiterate that I campaigned vigorously for Kwabena Agyapong, but he appears to have disappointed me with the way he is going about things, and if it continues this way, it will spell doom for his political career,” he stressed.
