EOCO Chases Tema MCE

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in Tema has extended invitations to four members of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) over some corruption allegations.

Isaac Ashai Odamtten, the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE); Coordinating Director of TMA, Philip Buanduah; Presiding Member (PM) of the Assembly, Romeo Akahoho and Kwesi Poku, Assembly Member of Hacrow Electoral Area, were the three persons asked to report.

The decision to invite, DAILY GUIDE gathered, stemmed from some allegations against the MCE for renting a $300 Toyota Prado with registration number GR 5957-15 for almost a month, showering an amount of GH¢20, 000 on some sub-committee members for soliciting a generator from GRIDCO for the assembly.

GRIDCO was said to have donated the generator to the assembly in the midst of the power crisis, upon the request of the MCE.

Some sub-committee members who helped to bring the generator were said to have been given an amount of GH¢20,000 to be shared among themselves for work done.

They were also accused of using an amount of GH¢15,000 for the test of the generator, GH¢35,000 for the installation of the generator, using GH¢40,000 for a damage part of the generator belonging to special aides, organising birthday parties for selected staff members, toll collection to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party chairman, among others.

However, the MCE had denied renting the vehicle from the assembly coffers while his car was at repairs, explaining that he used his own funds to pay for the renting but admitted giving the assembly’s fund to the sub-committee members to share.
