African Movie Academy Awards Screening Underway

Rigorous screening processes to select technically apt African films for the 2015 edition of the prestigious African Movie Academy Awards are still ongoing.

Over the weekend, one screening session came to a successful end, with college of screeners coming from different parts of the continent to select about 39 films for the next level.

Films screened included short films, Diaspora and African feature films by some of the continent’s best film makers.

The AMAA received over 800 films across the continent and the Diaspora for consideration.

Films came from over 60 countries of the world, mostly within Africa, South America, United States and North America.

According to Mr Shaibu Hussein, a film critic and chairman of the College of Screeners, the organisers received a good number of entries from what could be considered new territories for AMAA, from such countries as Cuba, Brazil, Trinidad & Tobago and Jamaica.

Two groups of screeners from last week and this week are expected to okay about 75 films for the next stage of the process.
