Land Dealer Assaults 3 Women

A 27-year-old unemployed man has been remanded in police custody for assault and causing unlawful damage.

Jacob Amahia was said to have beaten a woman and her two daughters and damaged a kiosk belonging to one of them.

However, when the case of Amahia, charged on three counts of assault and causing unlawful damage, was called at the Amasaman District Court B, he was absent and, therefore, his plea was not taken.

The case has  been adjourned to May 21, 2015.

Presenting the facts to the court, the Prosecutor, Inspector F. A. Ansah, said the three complainants in the case were  Vida Martey and her two daughters, Jemila Abdella and Anna Mensah.

He said about five years ago, Anna wanted to buy a piece of land so she contacted Amahia to find out whether he could  be of help.

Amahia told Anna that his father sold lands and his father had given him the right to take her to see the land.

Inspector Ansah said Amahia collected  GH¢ 1,400 from Anna in the presence of Jemila and Vida and promised that he would give the money to his father and take her to see the land.

However, the prosecutor said after Amahia collected the money, he did not fulfil his promise.

When Vida and her daughters contacted Amahia, he rather got provoked.

Inspector Ansah said on January 15, 2015, the complainants were in their house when Amahia went there to attack and assault them.

In the process, Amahia damaged  a kiosk belonging to Jemila and run away.

The complainants reported the incident  to the police and on April 20, 2015, Amahia was arrested.

However, in his caution statement, he denied having committed the offences.
