School Feeding Collapsing! Caterers paid With Dud Cheques

Caterers under the National School Feeding Programme in the Greater Accra Region have complained that they have not been paid for their services rendered since last term September, threatening they would not continue working come next academic year in September if they are not paid.

They said several cheques issued to them by the National School Feeding Secretariat have bounced and they are at a loss why that is happening, because the cheques are Bank of Ghana Cheques.

Most of the Caterers who spoke to the Daily Searchlight Newspaper, noted that they have been forced to take loans from the banks to ensure that they cook for the students but the interest on the loans they have taken had gone up due to default payment.

The caterers maintained that the current economic challenges facing the country are affecting their purchasing power.

They disclosed that they have been receiving threats from managers of the programme anytime they complain of luck of cash.

The caterers are calling on government to address their concerns because the programme is in danger if government continues to default in paying them for services rendered.

Efforts to reach the Secretariat for a reaction were not successful.
