The Leader of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), Dr Henry Lartey, has said the economic difficulties Ghanaians are facing make the exit of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from power in 2017 inevitable.
He said the NDC government had failed to resolve the energy crisis due to its inability to diversify energy sources and there was the need for the ruling party to focus attention on the use of solar energy.
Dr Lartey was speaking after delegates of his party elected regional executive of the party by popular acclamation.
The executives
The elected executive members are Mr Jeff Sam, Chairman; Mr Gideon Arthur, Vice Chairman; Ms Martha Jonah, Dan Lartey Junior, Treasurer; and Oko Lartey, Organiser.
The others are Joseph Bawah, Youth Organiser; Thompson Owusu, Education Secretary, and Ms Kate Lartey, Women’s Organiser.
Failed policies
He said it was obvious that the policies and programmes of the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) - two main political parties - had failed to bring Ghanaians the needed socio-economic development.
He added that the GCPP was the best option for Ghana and that the GCPP would pull a surprise in the 2016 general election.
Election 2016
He urged the executive and party members in the region to work hard to ensure the party would win the 2016 election to change the fortunes of Ghanaians.
He said all must join in helping Ghanaians to understand that the GCPP was the best alternative to the NDC government.
Domestication policy
Dr Lartey noted that the domestication policy still remained the one solution to the country’s worsening economic woes.
He said that was the only way to develop the economy and better the lives of Ghanaians.
Criticising government
He said constantly criticising the government on all fronts would not help to build the nation, adding: “For now, Ghanaians must ensure that the government succeeds in whatever it is doing until the next election.
“You can’t just criticise for criticism sake. You must be ready to provide useful alternatives to their policies,” he said.
A leading member of the party, Mr John Ameka, urged the members to work hard, saying victory would only come through hard work.
