Driver Dumps Victim In Cemetery

Kwaku Adjei, a Kia truck driver, is in trouble for dumping the body of a 45-year-old man at a cemetery on Sunday.

Adjei was said to have offered a lift to the man, Godwin Kofi Osei, in the bucket of the vehicle, but a metal door hanging on the vehicle fell on Osei, killing him instantly.

The driver and his two mates were said to have dumped the body at the Botokrom cemetery, near Drobo in the Jaman District of the Brong-Ahafo Region, and sped off.

The vehicle, with registration number BA 713-13, however, got stuck in a mud and the driver abandoned it and ran away, but later surrendered to the police on hearing that the youth of Drobo had set the vehicle ablaze.

The Drobo District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Philip Asante, confirmed the incident to The Ghanaian Times yesterday.

He said the vehicle, on its way to Kumasi from Drobo, had in its bucket, quantities of plumbing materials with the huge metal door placed on top.

The police said Osei got on the vehicle at Fetentaa, and on the way, the vehicle fell into a pothole and the metal door hit his head.

According to the police, the driver stopped a few metres afterwards for the mates to reposition the metal door, only for them to find the lifeless body of Osei buried under it, in a pool of blood.

The police said the driver and his mates then drove to the bush near the cemetery, offloaded the goods and dumped the body at the cemetery.

Chief Supt. Asante said on their return, the vehicle got stuck in the mud as the driver tried to move, and in the course of salvaging the situation, they heard some people chanting war songs and approaching their direction.

Fearing for their lives, the police said the driver and his mates took to their heels and the youth on arrival, collected all the goods and set the truck ablaze.

The District Police Commander said the police heard of the incident and rushed to the scene, and managed to prevent the vehicle from burning to ashes. They collected the body from the cemetery and deposited it at the Saint Mary’s Hospital’s morgue, he said, adding that, later in the day, the driver and one of the mates, reported themselves to the police, who accompanied them to arrest the other mate. The incident is still being investigated, he said.
