Until There Is Peace & Unity Again In NPP, We Dont Want To See Afoko And Agyepong - NPP G/R Chairman

Mr. Ishmael Ashitey, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the opposition NPP has given duration for which the National Chairman Paul Afoko and the General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong should step aside to settle the dust at the top of the party’s leadership.

He was emphatic that the duo is the center of which the controversy in NPP revolves as they have on several occasions since they assume office a year ago have flouted the rules and regulations governing the party.

Speaking on Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman said the party has tolerated them for far too long; stressing “we have been hoping that all these will come to an end but there is no end in sight”.

He underscored that the problem in NPP is not about the death of the party’s Upper East Regional Chairman but rather the flouting of the party’s regulations and rules by Chairman Afoko and General Secretary to do things without involving other executives.

“We cannot allow that to happen because we are a serious political party. We are not also petitioning for their removal because they have visited the various regions without informing the regional executives but there have been series of events which has led to this action against them”, he stated.

He mentioned that so many issues have been happening along the line which has brought the party to this dilemma; thus the problem of the party is the two against the rest of the executives who are not doing what is expected of them.

“General Secretary is the one who is to manage our administration and the chairman is the executive chairman of the party; they two should control to make sure that they manage things for the party to go on very well. What is happening is that they have not been able to do so and they are in the middle of the problem themselves”, he fumed.

“Anything that happen, they are part of it; therefore as Regional Chairmen, we have also looked at the happenings and it didn’t started today but over year now as soon as they took over the office. We have been hoping that all these will come to an end and there is no end in sight”, he added.

He justified the actions of the regional chairmen saying they want the two leaders to step aside in order not to disturb the grass roots of the party who form the majority as they are not comfortable of the happenings in the party.

“They should step aside till there is peace in the party again before they come back….we cannot sit and wait till they destroy the party before we act while Ghanaians are crying for help from NPP. We have allowed enough….we wanted them to be united and come out with clear policies and clear programs for us run this party to take power in 2016”, he opined.
