Im Getting Frustrated; I Dont Know Why Constitutional & Legal Committee Is Silent Ayikoi Otoo

Member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former Constitutional and Legal Committee Chairman, Nii Ayikoi Otoo is upset about the attempt to remove the party’s National Chairman, Paul Afoko and General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong.

Some regional executives of the NPP have unanimously voted for the two leaders to step aside following the death of its Upper East Regional Chairman, Adams Mahama amidst the flouting of the Constitutional principles.

Party leaders in the Central, Volta, Eastern Western regions Monday decided that Mr. Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong be made to step aside until the police conclude investigations into the ghastly acid attack of the Upper East Chairman which led to his death.

But a distressed Nii Ayikoi Otoo on Accra-based Oman FM’s "National Agenda" said the action taken by the regional executives is unconstitutional.

He explained that before someone can be impeached, 40 percent of the party’s delegates must petition the National Council in accordance with Article 10 of the NPP Constitution.

“Why are they doing this? I’m frustrated and I’m surprised no one in the party has called them to order, I blame this one on the constitutional and legal committee and I don’t know why the constitutional and legal committee is silent,” he bemoaned.

Ayikoi Otoo said he is getting frustrated because the conduct of the party executives is portraying the NPP as a lawless party.

He urged the aggrieved party members to seek legal advice before embarking on such a sensitive action.
