Weve No Intention Of Impeaching Afoko, Agyepong . . . Gt Accra NPP Chairman

The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Mr Ishmael Ashitey, has explained that the party has no intention of removing the party’s national chairman and general secretary from their posts.

He, however, said “we are only asking our two leaders - Mr Paul Afoko and Mr Kwabena Agyei  Agyepong - in a friendly approach to step aside for now to enable the party to reorganise at the polling station and constituency levels.”

Speaking to the Daily Graphic on the outcome of their crunch emergency regional meeting last Monday, Mr Ashietey confirmed that the party would, however, impeach its national chairman and general secretary if they failed to step aside.

According to Mr Ashietey, “what we are doing now is not actually impeachment; it is only a petition asking them to step aside. It is when they refuse to step aside that we will activate the process of impeachment.”

Mr Ashitey said if the two national executive members did not step aside, signatures would be collated from 40 per cent of the delegates who voted for them to impeach them.

He said at this stage, the party needed plans and strategies to win the 2016 elections, adding that it would benefit the party in 2016 if Afoko and Agyepong stepped aside.

Mr Ashietey declared, “ the party is disorganised at the top and we have just a year-and-a-half to go for the 2016 elections.”

To this effect he disclosed that they had petitioned the National Executive Committee, National Council and the National Council of Elders to affirm their position that the two leadership must step aside.

Volta Region

Tim Dzamboe reports that the Volta Regional Executive members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have also called on the two leaders to step aside and give way to another team to take over their roles.

In a petition to the national executive and the council of elders after an emergency meeting held on Monday at the Sky Plus Hotel in Ho, the regional executive alleged that the two national executive members of the party had not met the expectations of party members.

Northern Region

Similarly, Samuel Duodu reports that  delegates of the NPP across the Northern Region at their meeting yesterday passed a resolution calling on the NEC of the party to make Messrs Afoko and Adgyepong to step aside for investigations to continue into the demise of the Upper East Regional Chairman of the party.

Upper East Region

Vincent Amenuveve reports from Bolgatanga in the Upper East Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) has unanimously resolved that the National Chairman of the party,Mr.Paul Afoko and the General Secretary,Mr.Kwabena Agyapong be impeached.

This followed an emergency meeting at the party headquarters at Bolgatanga on Tuesday during which 15 constituency Chairmen of the party in the region signed a resolution for Messrs Afoko and Agyapong to be impeached.

Tense atmosphere

Mr Ayambire said the atmosphere during the meeting was tense as most of the executive members were not happy that for the first time they were holding a meeting without Alhaji Adams Mahama, the regional Chairman, now deceased.

He, however, noted that the impeachment process could be pushed forward by the National leadership of the party.

Security personnel were patrolling the party's regional office during the meeting.

Meanwhile, the Central, Western and Eastern regions have passed a vote of no confidence in the national chairman and  the general secretary.
