There Should Be A Better Approach In Resolving Issues With Afoko And Agyepong - Sir John

Former General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie says party members who are saying the resolution of all the party executives asking Chairman Afoko and the Chief Scribe to step down is unconstitutional are not helping in calming down tempers.

According to him, the tension in NPP has gone beyond using the party’s constitutional mandate to press home demand as some leaders have already ascribed the action of the regional executive committee to pass resolution as null and void and unconstitutional.

Speaking on Okay Fm’s "Ade Akye Abia" Morning Show, Sir John as he is popularly called stated that there should be a better approach including the use of well calculated words to apologize to convince the angry executives to rescind their decision.

“People in the party should realize that the situation in the party has gone past the constitutionality; so those who are saying it is unconstitutional are not helping the process. We find a wise way and an apologetic manner to convince the angry executives to rescind their decision rather than going about saying it is unconstitutional, they are not helping Kwabena Agyapong and Paul Afoko in this process," he stated.

He maintained that those who are insisting on using the constitution to handle the problem are rather worsening the situation as it will be difficult for Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong to work with these same executives who have petitioned the national council against their leaders.

He however urged Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong to soberly reflect on the resolution passed by all the executive members of the party.

“Those saying it is unconstitutional should know that they are going to work with the very regional, constituency and polling station executives who have written a resolution to the National Council asking Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong to step aside,” he said.
