Nii Armah Kwao-fio the second, the Chief of Armaahkrom near Adeiso in the Upper West Akyem District, has urged communities to assist the Police to enhance security in their areas.
According to him, if communities provide police officers with the necessary support, they will be encouraged to function well.
Nii Armah Kwao-fio made the call when he handed over a six-unit lavatory facility, which he single-handedly funded at a cost of GH¢25,000 to the police staff Adeiso.
The Chief has also allocated five acres of land for infrastructural development to the Police Service.
The benevolent chief promised more support for the Police in the district, saying, he was consulting Osaberima Asare Oduro, chief of Adeiso, to construct a bungalow for the new District Police Commander.
Receiving the facility for onward submission to the Adeiso Police, Mr Derrick Ohene Assifu-Bekoe, the District Chief Executive, expressed his appreciation to Nii Kwao-fio.
He acknowledged that it was the first of its kind in the district, for an individual to solely construct an edifice for the government, as a contribution to development, and appealed to others to emulate the example.
Mr Assifu-Bekoe disclosed that the District Assembly had reviewed its budget to cater for infrastructural development for the Police in the area, and hinted of the construction of a new district police headquarters.
Receiving the facility on behalf of the Police, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Samuel A. Ntosoh, the Nsawam Deputy Municipal Police Commander, lauded the gesture by the chief.
He also urged the chiefs and people in the district to take keen interest in the formation of Community Neighbourhood Watch Committees, to help tackle crime in the area.
Mr Joseph Sam Amankwanor, the Member of Parliament for Upper West Akyem, commended Police in the area, and said they deserved more of such community support.
He stressed the need to sensitize the citizenry on the essence of the Police in the community, and urged the Police to engage the schools to get their pupils to know the value of policing.
The MP donated GH¢5,000 as his support to rent a fitting accommodation for the new Upper West Akyem District Police Commander.
