The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Solomon Nkansah, has stated that the ruling party will ride on the wings of the massive infrastructural development undertaken by the government across the country to retain political power in the 2016 general election.
According to him, the Mahama-led Administration has distinguished itself creditably in the area of infrastructural development, which opponents of the government, especially the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), had failed to appreciate.
In an interview with the Daily Graphic in Tamale during an orientation workshop for the party's constituency communications officers in the Northern Region on Friday, Mr Nkansah said that the good people of Ghana, who were the witnesses and direct beneficiaries of the infrastructure, would retain the party in power in 2016.
He noted that the government had also not reneged on its promise to resolve the power crisis, since by the end of the third quarter of the year, Dumsor would be a thing of the past or might have been minimised.
Orientation workshop The workshop, organised by the Northern Regional NDC Communications Unit, was aimed at sharpening the communication skills of the party's communicators at the constituency level and also teaching them how to use the various social media platforms in the discharge of their duties.
Mr Nkansah, who was in Tamale with his two deputies, Messrs Franklin Boahen and Fred Agbenyo, said the workshop for the party's constituency communicators formed part of preparations towards the 2016 electioneering.
He also said the party would use systematic and scientific methods of communication including the social media to prosecute its campaign to retain power in the 2016 general election.
The NDC National Communications Officer urged the party’s communicators to be agents of unity in the party and not of division and rancour.
Mr Nkansah gave an assurance that the NDC, as a social democratic party that has the welfare of the people at heart, would continue to undertake development projects in the rural areas of the country to improve the living conditions of the people.
Strategies The NDC Northern Regional Communications Officer, Mr Abdul Momeen Alhassan Fuseini, stated that the workshop was a trainer of trainers one for the party's constituency communicators who would also train the communicators at the branch level.
He said the workshop also formed part of the strategies of the party to achieve its target of winning all the 31 constituencies in the region and to ensure that President Mahama wins in all the constituencies with bigger and wider margins in the 2016 general election than he did in 2012.
Mr Fuseini urged his fellow communicators to market the party through the numerous development projects undertaken by the NDC government in the region and cited the upgrading of the Tamale Regional Hospital into a teaching hospital by the government and the construction of the Fulfoso-Junction-Damongo-Sawla-Tuna -Kalba road, which had drastically reduced the travelling hours from Tamale to Wa to two hours, as some of the development projects executed by the government in the region.
He added that the government was also constructing six of the community day senior high schools (SHS) promised by the NDC government in the region, which are at various stages of completion.
Mr Fusieni called on the participants to use the knowledge and skills they had acquired at the workshop to market the party to the people in their respective constituencies and communities.
