Mr. Peter Anarfi-Mensah, the Ashanti Regional Minister says the Mahama administration will not relent in its efforts to use education as a tool to eliminate poverty in the country, especially in rural communities.
According to the newly appointed regional Minister, it is to achieve this that the Mahama administration has sunk a chunk of the nation’s resources into building school infrastructure from basic to tertiary level as well as the expansion of the training of teachers.
Speaking at the commissioning of a teacher’s bungalow at the St Joseph’s Secondary School, Ehwiren constructed by the Betwai Municipal Assembly, the Regional Minister mentioned some of the educational investments to include the construction of 100 community day Senior High Schools and the elevation of training colleges to colleges of education.
Although this is the Regional Minster’s first ever commission of projects since he assumed office, he used one day to commission three more project at different places.
They are the three classroom block with library facilities at Esiase and Students dormitory block at Wesley Senior High School near Bekwai lorry station.
The Minister called for support for the government to enable it enhance the living standards as well as resourcing all basic and secondary schools in rural communities as well as construct new ones in deprived areas.
Mr. Anarfi-Mensah announced that government is constructing additional six modern school blocks for the Ashanti Region.
According to him, these projects have been carefully chosen to benefit six communities in the region that lack such school infrastructure to encourage teacher and learning.
He however charged school authorities and the personnel manning the terminal to take good care of the facilities that have been handed over to them.
Accompanied by the Municipal Chief Executive of Bekwai, Mrs. Mary Juantuah, the Minister promised to use their good offices to lobby for more development projects for the Ashanti region.
