I Spent 18 Months In Germany Washing Dishes- Kennedy Agyapong (VIDEO)

For 18 good months, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong worked in Germany as a dish washer and a cleaner to make ends meet.

The vocal Member of Parliament for Assin North recalled on Okay FM’s Drive Time show that hard life in Germany during 1984, made things easier for him when he moved on to the United States of America in search of greener pasture.

As at 1984, Hon. Agyapong claims he was making one thousand, two hundred and ninety Deutsche Mark within a month from the menial jobs he worked. Out of the money he made, the managed to save one thousand and always fed on the food served in the restaurant where he worked as a dish washer.

To this day, if I should soak my hand in water and dry it up without smearing pomade, you would notice how whitish and dry the back of my palm looks like. The heat from the restaurant damaged the cells behind my palm. I worked from 5pm to 5 am as a dish washer and after that spent two hours sweeping and cleaning”, he happily recounted.

According to him, the tedious work he did had a tolling effect on him and it came to him whenever he sat in a train to get home. He claims he constantly struggles to keep his eyes open and mostly missed his stop.

When I got home too, I was made to sleep for 4 hours. The woman I used to stay with would wake me up and tell me to clean our house. I was not happy about the condition but the woman would say to me that Kennedy you will go to America and you have to go to school and work at the same time, so you have to start from here”.
