Cleansing Of African Football Administration Will Not Be Far From Now - Kofi Amoah

Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee of the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana, Dr. Kofi Amoah says he fully supports the resignation of FIFA President, Sepp Blatter.

He explained that the decision to step down by the football ‘Lord’ is good for African football.

“I welcome and support the resignation of Mr Blatter. And I also believe that the cleansing of African football administration will not be far from now,” he said.

On Tuesday afternoon, FIFA president Sepp Blatter sensationally announced his resignation as the head of football's world governing body.

In a hastily-arranged announcement at FIFA HQ in Zurich, Blatter revealed that he will call an emergency congress of FIFA executives to vote for his replacement.

No timetable has yet been set for the election and officials have said it could take place any time between December this year and March 2016 - with the 79-year-old to continue in his role until then.

However, Kofi Amoah who led Ghana to a successful hosting of the Africa tournament noted in a statement - “I believe that Principles and Morality should continue to guide nations and the global football community towards progress. No amount of money can replace these because in the end Principles and Morality shall prevail”.

Below, Amoah’s full statement

I believe that Principles and Morality should continue to guide nations and the global football community towards progress.

No amount of money can replace these because in the end Principles and Morality shall prevail.

I welcome and support the resignation of Mr Blatter.

And I also believe that the cleansing of African football administration will not be far from now.

Let Principles and Morality be our guide as well.
