Footsoldiers Open Can Of Worms In NDC

Embittered members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Manhyia North constituency have accused National, Regional and Constituency Executives of neglect and threatened to embark on a political strike. As a result, a group called “Kwasia ani te a na agoro agu” has emerged to articulate their concerns.

Madam Issaka Naana Hamdiya, the NDC branch Secretary told a press conference held at Anyaano (M/A) school at Moshie-Zongo in Kumasi that the group would ensure that the 14,000 voters in the area do not partake in the elections.

“We are no longer working for the party, neither are we going to vote”, she stressed. “It is sad Regional Executives could not listen to us, rather they are making jokes and mockery of our pain as an orphan constituency,” she complained.

According to Secretary Hamdiya, NDC contributed 14,000 votes from the newly-created Manhyia North Constituency. Chastising Party Executives, the group bemoaned the continuous confiscation of public toilets in the Constituency for their personal gains, looting and sharing of funds allocated to the Constituency, sale of items presented to communities by the First Lady, Lordina Mahama, sidelining some executives who would always speak the truth, extorting money from party members before giving them slots, dragging congregants from an Adventist Church to partake in their elections and rigging constituency elections held in August last year in the full glare of Regional Executives.

Madam Hamdiya stated that the delegates have decided to keep quiet because they cannot endure these injustices, adding those constituencies Executives have tagged them as members of the elephant family.

“Indeed some people we knew as NDC members have defected because of the attitude of the executives”, she disclosed. The disappointed NDC members announced that they are not ready to meet any Regional Executives as the have lost faith in them.

A ward women’s organizer, Madam Fati Salifu, told the media that they want NDC to “lose”. She regretted how they used their resources, including cars and money to bring the party to power only to be sidelined.

Madam Salifu appealed to any disappointed NDC member in Manhyia North to join their movement to fight against the NDC in the 2016 elections as she could not understand why they had to use their meagre resources to print party T-shirts during elections only to be ignored by the party they fought for.

Contacted to ascertain the reality behind the breakaway, the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NDC, Mr. Raymond Tandoh, expressed surprise about the issues raised by the group and promised to get first-hand information from the Manhyia North Constituency
