Ministry Of Health Calls For Blood Donation To Support Flood, Fire Victims

The Ministry of Health has called on the public to voluntarily donate blood to support the victims of last Wednesday's fire outbreak at a filling station in Accra.

The blood will also be used to support victims of the floods resulting from the torrential rain on that day.
A statement issued in Accra last Friday said following last Wednesday's disaster in Accra, and similar reports from other parts of the country, the public should donate blood in support of the victims.

It said the National Blood Service, Ghana had made centres available for the emergency blood donation exercises.

Criteria for donation
According to the statement, all prospective donors should be between 17 and 60 years, eat before donating, must be at least 50kg in weight and must be healthy.

"After the blood donation exercise, you can go back to your normal duties, except those engaged in vigorous activities. The National Blood Service would like to inform hospitals and clinics with emergency cases to contact the blood service immediately for blood supply," it added.

Greater Accra Region
In Accra, it said, donors were expected to donate at the National Blood Service headquarters behind the Korle Bu ECG office or adjacent the GCB Bank, the Ridge Hospital, the 37 Military Hospital, the Korle Bu Blood Bank and the Police Hospital.

Central Region
The statement said donors in the Central Region could donate at any of the Central regional hospitals and could also call Mr Martin Ampofo on 0244641914 and Ms Veronica Acquah on 0243455109 for assistance.

Ashanti Region
Donors in the Ashanti Region have also been asked to go to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
It said Ashanti regional donors could contact Mr Peter Boateng on 0201641369; Mr Francis Nketia on 0208492158 and Mr Kwame Asenso on 0506999969 for assistance.

Western Region
In the Western Region, blood donors have been asked to go to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital to donate.
It said they could also call Mr Blay Cudjoe on 0208297312 and Ms Emile Anonu on 0243757364 for assistance.

Brong Ahafo Region
It said donors in the Brong Ahafo Region should go to any of the regional hospitals to donate blood. They could also call Mr George Annor on 0244674909 for assistance.

Volta Region
Blood donors in the Volta Region are to go to the Volta regional hospitals in Hohoe and Ho to donate blood. They could also call 024095559 and 0247449582 for assistance.

Eastern Region
Blood donors in the Eastern Region can also donate blood at the regional hospitals. They could call 0267663772, 0244537767 and 024359446 for assistance.

Upper West
The statement said blood donors in the Upper West Region could donate blood at the Wa and the Nandom hospitals. They could call 0208390312 and 0274524192 for assistance.

Upper East
In Upper West Region, donors could go to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital. They could also call 0204143400 and 0244533813 for assistance.
