Works on the $33-million new Cape Coast Stadium Project is eighty-five complete, Tang Wei Yi, the Project Manager of the company working on the project has said.
The China-aided stadium, being constructed by the China Jiangxi Corporation for International Economic and Technical Corporation and supervised by the AESL, a local state consulting company, will have the capacity to accommodate more than 15,000 spectators when completed.
Briefing some selected journalists on a media tour to the project here on Thursday, Mr Wang said the foundation, main structured and roofing of the project had been completed.
The tour, organised by the Chinese Embassy in Accra for journalists to visit China funded project, formed part of activities marking the 55th anniversary celebration of the diplomatic relations between China and Ghana.
“At the moment, my outfit is doing the internal and external decoration as well as installation of fittings,” he said.
Mr Wang said the stadium has facilities such as runway tracks, boxing training court, tennis and handball court, medical rooms, VIP Lobbies, athlete lounges, and guest rooms.
“In addition the numerous in the facility, we are also constructing a road along the stadium,” he said.
Among the challenges facing the execution of the project, the Project Manager mention delay at the clearing of goods at the Tema Port.
That, he said, had affected the schedule and cost of the project, and quizzed whether the company would vary the cost of the project, Mr Wang replied in the negative.
He said the project which started in August 2013, should have completed in August 2015.
In spite of the delay, Mr Wang said, he was hopeful the project would be completed on schedule.
The Project Manager expressed gratitude to the government, the Ministry of Youth and Sport and the Chinese government for their immense support to the project.
The Central Regional Consultant to the AESL, Mr George K. Gbinniya, in an interview with the Ghanaian Times said, he was impressed about the quality and progress of work.
He said his outfit constantly supervised by the work to ensure that that all specifications were met to meet the local stadium standards.
A worker on the project, Samuel Mensah who spoke to the Ghanaian Times, said he had gained a lot of experience working on the project.
Mr Mensah, who is the Head of Masons, expressed the hope that the knowledge gained would him in private jobs when the project was completed.
