Govt Not Happy With Frequent Fuel Price Increment

The Central Regional Minister, Aquinas Tawiah Quansah has stated that the government led by President John Dramani Mahama is not happy with the frequent price increment of petroleum products in the country which has resulted in high cost of living.

According to the minister, President Mahama has a good heart for Ghanaians and wish petrol sells at GHc1 per gallon in order to make transportation easy for the people.

Mr. Quansah made this known at Twifo Atti-Morkwa traditional council as part of his tour of the region to acquaint himself with challenges facing traditional councils to attend to them as soon as possible.

He appealed to all to do all they can to support the government in power and as well pray for the government to achieve his aim to improve the living standards of people.

According to the minister, there are critics who always pray there should be petrol price increment all the time and again pray against the President in order not to deliver  on his promises, but he said, he trusts his boss (President Mahama) will deliver at the end of his tenure of office.

Mr. Quansah assured the chiefs of the Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira traditional council that his outfit recognizes the bad state of Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira roads and that it has been awarded on contract, hence, work will begin during the first week of July this year.

He observed that the Kakum National Park which is one of the most visited tourism destinations in the country has been recording huge drops in revenue as a result of bad road network so there is the need for the government to provide better roads for the chiefs and people of the area to boost economic activities.

Mr. Quansah condemned the act of some youth in the community who take the laws into their hands by using any material to construct speed ramps without consulting Roads and Highway Authorities to do so, intensifying the damages on the roads.

He called for unity among the chiefs in the region and urged them to embrace developmental projects that come into their various traditional areas since disunity slows down development.

At the Twifo Mampong traditional council, the Omanhene of the area, Obrempong Appiah Nuamah III hinted that the Pra Bridge at Twifo Praso has become a death trap to people in the district and appealed to the minister to as matter of urgency construct steel bridge to avoid any death.

He said since the Central Regional Minister is the President’s representative in the region to handle any issue, he should use his position as the Minister to solve the chieftaincy issues in the region as most of the chiefs don’t know the rules in the chieftaincy industry, thus, disturbing the peace and stability in the area.

On his part, the Chief of Kwamoano, Nana Kwame Adu Nyansaboakwa commended the government for the massive developments it has initiated in the area and again saluted the president for the provision of an ultra-modern water project to serve the people in the community.

The Chief of Twifo Aboso, Nana Kwaku Baah appealed to the government to provide Aboso community with electricity, noting that, even though the country is experiencing the erratic power supply popularly known as “dumsor” in the county, his people in the community prefer being in “dumsor” than living in darkness forever.

The Minister was accompanied by the director of the Central Regional Coordinating Council, Kojo Oppong, the Regional Health Director, Dr. Samuel Tetteh Quarshie, the District Chief Executive of Twifo Atti-Morkwa, Bossman Osei Hyiamang and the Member of Parliament for Atti-Morkwa, Samuel Ato Amoah among others.
